As you can tell by the fact that I haven't updated my blog lately, it's been pretty busy around here. The last few weeks have been spent with friends and family.
Last Sunday we had Dave's family over for our annual Lubben reunion. We missed Nug, Glenda and Curtis this year. We had gorgeous weather, good food and great fellowship. We had lots of fun in the pool and Dave kept busy cooking up burgers and hot dogs.
Laiya is still trying to learn to ride a bike. After a bad experience in Hong Kong, she's really afraid of falling, so . . .
A few weeks ago, Abby (5 1/2 years old) ran in a 1/2 mile race in Byron Center. Ryan ran along side her. Heather is a big runner, so it's neat that Abby is following in her footsteps. Check out that look of determination!
A couple days ago, my friend Joyce Hoekzema came over with her daughter, Lindsey, and her three boys. Emily and Lindsey have been friends since they were just little girls. Here are their 5 little boys (Lucy was sleeping)
Last Monday Emily and her kids and Laiya and I went up to the cottage for the afternoon. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed spending time with 'Grandma Great'.
This week Tuesday, Braden had his tonsils out. This picture was taken just hours after he got home. He spent the day here today, while he is still recovering.
Wednesday night we watched Ben and Erica's kids while they went out to dinner for their anniversary.
Two weekends ago, we had my niece, Lidia, and two grand daughters, Lucy and Zippora, here for a few days. Lidia and Laiya were so excited to each have a baby to play with that I hardly had to do anything.
We now have my nephew Byron here for 5 days. Laiya and Byron are having a 'Lord of the Rings marathon' - they plan to watch one movie a day. Right now they are watching #1 and eating popcorn.
Only a week and a half until Laiya heads off to 8th grade! She's a little nervous, so I went to school to talk to the principal and he is working on a plan so that she will get extra help in the subjects that she doesn't understand. She's been tutored twice a week all summer and her English has really improved! In fact, she even caught me spelling something wrong - I wrote 'get table clothes' and she said "mom - there no 'e' in there!!!" Yes, my niece Betsy (Wierenga) is doing a great job with the nouns, verbs, plural nouns, etc.! Today was spent making lots of food - tomorrow we have a neighborhood picnic here and on Sunday we have our annual Brummel reunion. More fun times and, of course, more food!!
I hope you have all had a great summer - we sure have!
A busy summer . . .
