"Gotcha" Day and Bike Riding

I'm pretty proud of myself for keeping up with my blog lately!

Yesterday was a special day! It was Emily and Laiya's "gotcha" day - yes, both on the same day! 26 years ago we went to the airport in Detroit to pick up 7 1/2 month old Emily. She had a head full of hair that stuck straight up and felt like a brillo pad. The back of her head was bald from laying on her back for so many hours. Such a doll-baby! Two years ago, we returned home from picking up Laiya in Hong Kong. She has come SO far in two short years - it's just amazing! She's becoming very accomplished on the piano and has a 4.0 in high school. They are such beautiful girls, both inside and out, and we're proud to call them our daughters.
Emily and Laiya - sisters with a special bond

We sponsor two young families from Burma and last night we had them over for supper. We usually go to one of their apartments on Tuesday nights, but we wanted them to try out some bikes that were donated by friends for these families. Only Fam and her son, Richard, and Mi Mi were able to come because Fam's husband, Lian, was still working, and Mi Mi's husband, Mung Mung, was taking a 'job orientation' class so he can start working soon.
Dave tried to help MiMi get the hang of it.
Fam learning to ride a bike again. She said she only did this once before but she is determined and was doing really well by the time she was done.
Richard enjoyed an ice cream cone before going home.
